The topknot is totally trendy right now and is a super simple way to look chic without too much fuss.
Taking a style cue from celebs like Gwen Stefani and Nicole Richie who have rocked the topknot dressed up or down and totally pulled off the chic-ness, I attempted a topknot of my own only to end up with a mini bun reminiscent of a 5-year-old ballerina.
Determined not to give up, I headed to my local drugstore in hopes of finding some tools to help me get the perfect topknot on my super fine hair and that is just what I got. If your hair is fine, thin or too short: don't give up! Try this trick for the perfect topknot bun.
What you'll need: bristle hairbrush, bobby pins (I prefer the mini ones that match my hair color), 2 elastic bands and a messy bun elastic hairpiece (see below):
Start by fixing your hair into a high ponytail, I prefer to use a bristle brush to smooth all the pieces into place. Don’t worry if there’s any loose bits, we’ll deal with those after.
Next grab the hairpiece and pull the ponytail through so that the hairpiece sits where you want it, and take your hair and wrap it around the hairpiece to disguise it and secure with another elastic.
Next, I like to pin the bun with a few bobby pins just to make sure it stays in place.
Lastly you can pin up any loose pieces that were too short to make it in the bun, I prefer to let a few pieces stay loose around my face.
Voila. Perfect full topknot.
